so I mentioned previously that I had to scrap the original order of things in caesura.
well, I did. my original plan for this story was:
for someone to find the button somewhere in the future, for memories to come flooding back. they weren't supposed to get together, not even in the future - it was supposed to be a story slightly inspired by my own not-relationship with a friend, where I told him at some point that I liked him and we never did anything about it, just continued being good friends. it was also slightly inspired by Those Years - the line at the end where the girl says, "do you want to know my answer now?" and he says "no, just let me continue liking you a little longer." (I cried so hard at that movie OTL)
I'd intended to make it a non-chronological oneshot, with scenes of the present (future) being scattered between the scenes of the past, but in the end things changed.
Kuroyaku demanded that I let them get together, and non-chronological didn't quite cut it anymore. I wanted to post it as a oneshot still, but I later decided it would be better to put a break - both to upset my readers and also to put a full stop on the events of the first chapter. it seemed -- fitting, I suppose? that my readers would have to wait, to mirror the waiting that kryk were doing in the story itself.
and if it wasn't clear enough, chapter 2 was entirely narrated and directed by the two of them. I did nothing at all.
this was a challenging story to write, if only because of how rusty I am with writing and how my writing style has been affected by news writing. not to mention the raw emotions that I was trying to bring across - I don't think I did it quite as well as I did in on eggshells, but it was a start.
also, the thing that made me laugh about this fic (as mentioned in this entry) was because of the two parallels I found between it and on eggshells:
(eggshells)
Yaku nods, then mutters, "You're not mad?"

"Nope."
(caesura)
To Kuroo’s relief, Yaku’s shoulders relax a little. “You're not mad?”

(...)
“No, I'm not,” he says, trying for a reassuring smile.
and also, Yaku crying into Kuroo's shirt. man, I love that image, orz (and also, Chou-san the twitter kryk artist drew Yaku crying into Kuroo's shirt on graduation day, the day after I posted the fic.......happy coincidence)
some of my proudest lines from this story:
And maybe it’s the ridiculity of this situation right now — Yaku trapped in Lev’s arms, trying to break free of them, Kai and Kuroo looking on, drinks clutched tightly in hand, and the shadow of high school fast disappearing behind them — but Kuroo watches Yaku’s eyes crinkle as he throws his head back into a laugh, and finds himself following suit.
Yaku, always strong and unwavering, now looking at him like the world is hinged on a precipice, trusting that Kuroo won't let it fall apart. It's so unfair of Yaku, really, and yet endearingly flattering.
His gaze is open, full of trust and patience and something Kuroo can’t describe — like he would give Kuroo his heart and let him break it of his own free will.
