rielityThis was hands down the most research-intensive fic I've done in years... with barely 1.3k words to show for it HAHAHA research for this story took up 14 whole pages of my working doc, between video screenshots and other things.
Despite its length, I'm pretty pleased with how this story turned out. I first came up with the idea of writing a story about Nishinoya and the world last March, when he was revealed to us post-timeskip for the first time. Freedom is tied so intrinsically to Nishinoya, the ocean, and to Haikyuu as a story, and I wanted to pay it tribute here.

rielityFirst of all I would like to say that in the month that went into planning this story, including mapping out Kazuha's journey from start to finish, my Dragonspine exploration progress increased by 20%. I also triggered Albedo's story quest by accident (after having it open in my quest list since 1.2), and it led to a dramatic breakdown while I was on call with my Genshin buddies. It remains unfinished in my game, and Albedo is now in his camp. I log out from his camp every day, and Kazuha gets to see him every day.
Secondly, I have never fought a lawachurl with Kazuha or Albedo. In fact, Klee is my go-to when I see a lawachurl in any form. If you have never seen Klee fight a lawachurl, I most strongly urge you to.

rielityhere I am with yet another new fandom, and this time it's wildly different from all of my other fandoms... while still feeling like I've come full circle back to my kpop days. anyway, I got into i7 not expecting that I would want to *write* for it, but apparently... not... I should have known that I would tumble right back down rarepair lane since that's What I Do but I didn't expect to end up with a rarepair that would intrigue me so much even with barely any canon interaction... sighs... also of course the two of them are my favourites, so ending up shipping them was a natural progression. I guess.

of course it was gonna be a MSBY Jackals fic. I've been thinking about writing them ever since Atsumu straight up called Hinata his spiker (to be fair, it actually translates more to 'our' spiker but I'll take it) and I was hoping Furudate would write their backstory in the latest chapter so I could fill it in but noooo Atsumu had to be all cool and go "Let's greet them properly" what the HECK dude look at how freaking proud of himself he was!!! Jan. 19th, 2020 02:54 pmrielity I did it...!!! I did it, after 3.5 years of writing for Haikyuu...!! I wrote an Ennoshita character study and a fic from Nishinoya's POV!
what a hell of a struggle it was though, writing this fic... I had the main themes before I started writing but they came out to be too much for the size of the fic and I had to do a lot of cutting to keep it readable, and then I couldn't quite wrap it up well enough.

The highlight of this fic was definitely me jotting down the story idea on a Google Doc right after reading the chapter, going to bed, then waking up the next day to find that Alex/asofthaven had written the exact same headcanon.
This was my third ennonoya, but it was my first time writing an ennonoya that involved and focused on direct interaction for an entire scene. All my previous ennonoyas have been character studies of some sort, so writing this one was both a challenge and breath of fresh air.

...since I'm writing this now, I'm back, of course. whether or not I will stay is a matter of contention, but for now, I am here... and an appalling 37k words into a fic that was intended to max out at... 10k.

I'm not sure what I think of it yet, because I know the Seikai in my head is a very complicated mixture of anime-Seikai and novel-Seikai and they are nowhere the same, especially Seiya. (Kyoani butchered Seiya's character and Seiya/Minato's relationship so hard I'm angry even though I love watching my favourites suffer I could go on forever about this but I will spare your ears)

actually, I was already done with 95% of the fic, because I did a brain dump over lunch yesterday lmao. when I came back to it today, I realised I'd ended it at a place where I didn't quite know how to continue because... what else was there to say? so all I really did today was to wrap it up, clean it a bit and post it.

Mar. 9th, 2018 06:29 pmrielity finished! feels so good to be done with something, though it's by no means my best piece of writing. I'm actually very dissatisfied with the language here, because it's that awkward cross between my formal writing for school and my fic writing style. Consistency? Never heard of her.
I scrapped my original fic plan, because as it turns out, scenes don't necessarily split up across scenes as well as they ideally should. I'm still very concerned about the flow of events and stuff........ So I'm waiting for Saf to give it a look and feedback!

Mar. 8th, 2018 06:10 amrielity ow frick I was not expecting this story to be so personal. Anyhow, I accidentally (?) wrote 1k words while I was supposed to be sleeping. Which means I wrote 1k words on my mobile, and I now technically only have one more scene to go. I have to admit I was avoiding writing this part of the story so I guess I already did know that it wasn't going to be an easy scene to write. But I'm done now!
the story kind of went somewhere I wasn't expecting, though, so I'm not sure how the last scene is going to work. we'll see about it when I next look at this fic, lol. Kryk are great and also horrible to work with for this exact reason, ugh. They'll always sort themselves out, but also it's like ?? Why plan when the characters don't bother listening.
edit: fml I realised March is the month of writing personal fics for me. aughhhhh.... though this fic is nowhere as deeply person as eggshells was. On the flipside, I guess it does mean I'm recovering and moving on.

Feb. 24th, 2018 03:20 amrielity managed to get around 300 words in today. I've not written in so long that it felt strange. this scene feels like it's out of some shoujo manga. Daishou isn't shoujo manga-kun, Kryk are. or maybe all three of them are.
feels like my writing is very stilted and cold right now, which I really hate. I suspect I'm writing this story in the wrong voice/from the wrong POV. but I dare not attempt the alternate voice because it feels like it might unleash very raw emotions that I'm not sure I'm ready to face yet.

I was just going to tweet about one thing, but that one thing turned into a whole thread about fandom, motivation, and feedback culture. I'm a bit mortified that I actually wrote all of this and posted it on Twitter, since I'm usually much more careful with what I tweet, but anyway. I'm posting it here now, since this is probably the most rational I've been re: fandom in a long time. Some salt, but mostly just me... trying to vent.
