finished! feels so good to be done with something, though it's by no means my best piece of writing. I'm actually very dissatisfied with the language here, because it's that awkward cross between my formal writing for school and my fic writing style. Consistency? Never heard of her.

I scrapped my original fic plan, because as it turns out, scenes don't necessarily split up across scenes as well as they ideally should. I'm still very concerned about the flow of events and stuff........ So I'm waiting for Saf to give it a look and feedback!

I'm done with hqss! I wrapped it up much slower than I expected it to because I got carried away by fic research, and my characters had to go on a roundabout before they decided to move on with the story, but at the same time it's faster than what it was originally supposed to turn out. It capped out at 4040 words in the end.

 Considering I literally started this on Christmas Eve after my giftee asked me on Lofter if I was taking part in HQSS, it's amazing how quickly I finished it o(-----( Evidently stress is my biggest motivator orz;;;

I spent a disproportionate amount of time on trivial fic research today - like the name of a traditional Japanese fireplace (an irori, which is an amazing invention that lets you cook, boil water, and dry your clothes and also keep warm all at one go), the existence of a myriad year clock, and what inanimate objects are associated with Ennoshita ("a bench to warm" from Mel took the grand prize, I'm still laughing at it six hours later) - but it reminded me of how fun writing can be, and how much I can learn from it.

I have been laughing at my writing for the whole of today because this story was really driven by my characters, and they've been an absolute joy to write in this universe. As a consequence of this, though, a lot of the story was dialogue-driven, which made me quite uncomfortable at some parts because I'm not good at dialogue.

Randomly, I also discovered that [REDACTED PAIR OF CHARACTERS] and [REDACTED PAIR OF CHARACTERS] have matching heights and IT'S AWESOME. Furudate's canon information really made this entire fic perfect for me tbh I was so stunned when I looked up the HQWiki and found that their height differences are in 0.x cm's. :'D

Saf has given it a read through already and she's given me the green light, so now I'm waiting for Mel to read it through too and I can post it up...! I'm a bit concerned about the ending, because I can't tell if it's suitable or it's too tryhard, but we shall see...

Now it's time for me to start on my comment for Ritz's gift to me... and then work on 1/3 fic.

(I also have to start on reading all my friends' gift works, o m g I have no time. Also if Kuroyaku tag only updates 3x in the whole of HQSS I'm going to be sorely disappointed in HQ fandom.)

after 2 months and some (I started in April) I'VE FINALLY FINISHED DRAFT ONE OF TIMELESS 8.

really uncertain about a lot of things from plot to characterisation to relationship dynamics, but you have no idea how big a relief it is to finally get it off my hands (and into my beta's). funny how it started off easy and just spiraled into hell. I wrote it pretty blindly too, with only the main plot points but not the events along the way, so for a good 60% of the fic I was just winging it... which is probably how I ended up... with a fic that is 9.4k words long when I was expecting it to be 6-7k at most.

oh crap

I think I know why I suffered so much. I wrote the whole thing in full chronological order.........................? which doesn't usually happen for my long fics.

towards the end (aka the last scene, which I wrote today) I literally threw my hands up and went, yknow what, anything goes. and I found something really useful on Wikipedia! the things I've bookmarked for this fic are pretty amusing tbh. but there was something that fit incredibly smoothly into the whole story and I was super happy about that.

I'm just happy that I'm done.

except my beta is now done reading, which means editing comes soon. sob

on a side note, me @ me: why can't you spare yourself the pain and stop shipping so many rarepairs??????? this fic ended up with a strange mess of dynamics also, what's up with that

me @ me: new phone who dis

it's not possible for me tbh, almost every single one of my fandom ships are rare............

update [12.18am]: so I was looking through my old Kuroyaku drafts to see if there's anything I can work with, and I have this 10-paragraph fic that reads like a ritzfic.

busy busy busy week so far, and it's only gonna get busier >_>

finished writing and rearranging reincarnation au's first draft! at 3672 words. gonna let it sit because i'm still playing around with some thematic ideas that are supposed to run through the fic - I had something in mind initially, but as I wrote the scenes and the fic started to take shape I realised that ... nope, my mind is not as sophisticated/atas/eloquent as to be able to keep that up for all the scenes.

pretty pleased with the overall tone and style that I have in this. it's different but also similar to my old one, so it's not too off-putting but not as mundane. had some trouble with angling a few scenes because of how similar they are to things I've written before, so I had to make sure I put a fresh spin on things while keeping the gist and also the tone.

between reincarnation au and saso br1, I've realised that my brain capacity and imagination for aus is actually... pretty pathetic. the aus that are being prompted for saso br1 are amazing. I should take a leaf out of their book.

in other news, I'm not doing any writing this week at work (or minimal, really) because I'm on news duty... which is apparently making me antsy because I want to write.

so last night after posting my journal, I continued work with the tanafuta and ... finished it while I was in bed. I was stuck for a long time but managed to kick my ass into gear by dissing Futakuchi - apparently that's the secret, just drag Futakuchi, cos before I knew it I'd written 1000 words lol.

knocked off the story with (around) 2379 words and sent it to Mel to yell at. I just need to add two or three more paragraphs and it'll be properly done.

seriously, talk about a ship I had zero intention for writing for, and a fic I had no plans to write either. the muse literally hit me yesterday afternoon, and I took less than twelve hours to finish it. *stares at myself accusingly*

update [11:40pm]: completed at 2634 words! it took five paragraphs, lmao. just waiting for Mel to come back online and scream at me again :D

had to go see the TCM doc today for the wrist, got it pulled hard lolol. trying to not rely on my left hand is almost impossible?

the kuroyaku artwork from the light novel really fired me up, I managed to rewrite the part in 2.5 that was getting in my way.

...in fact, I just finished 2.5. Kuroo and Yaku decided to take hold of the reins at the end, so it didn't quite end up like I'd expected it to.

draft one final word count: 1718

oh my god there is so much cuddling what the hell
